The roller is designed for the even distribution of abrasive paste and the embedding of abrasive particles into the working surface of a lap.

Charging a lap with abrasive paste is the process of saturating the lap's surface with abrasive particles and distributing them evenly. During the charging process, abrasive particles are not merely applied to the surface of the lap; they are rubbed and embedded into its working surface, thereby anchoring them and increasing the lap's operational efficiency.

Proper charging serves several key purposes:

  • Providing uniform abrasiveness to the lap: The abrasive is distributed homogeneously, without clumps or gaps. This ensures even processing of the bevel along its entire length, preventing accidental deep scratches caused by paste clusters.

  • Saving abrasive: With simple smearing, a large portion of the diamond paste immediately ends up on the back of the bevel during the first few passes and does not participate in the sharpening. Abrasive that is firmly embedded into the working surface works for a long time and highly effectively.

  • Preventing abrasive "floating": If the paste is applied to the lap surface without charging, it acts like a slurry—particles move freely and scratch patterns can form chaotically. Particles embedded into the surface provide greater control during metal processing.

  • Increasing lap efficiency: A charged lap works longer and more stably without the need for paste reapplication, as the abrasive grains do not leave its surface after the first few passes.

How is the charging process performed?

  1. Application: A small amount of abrasive paste is applied to the surface of a clean and dry lap.

  2. Distribution: The paste is rubbed evenly across the working surface of the lap.

  3. Charging (embedding abrasive particles): This is the most critical step. You must roll the roller cylinder across the entire surface of the lap using slight pressure to literally "drive" the abrasive particles into the lap's structure.Note: Excess paste that has not anchored itself should be removed with a soft cloth.

Features of the Charging Roller:

  • Ease of use: Bearings on the roller axis ensure the smooth and even rotation of the cylinder during operation. Side handles make it easy to control the direction of movement and the charging pressure.

  • Intuitive and simple cylinder replacement: The roller cylinder can be installed and swapped out for another without the use of screwdrivers.

  • Compactness: The small dimensions of the product ensure easy storage. The roller will not take up much space on your workbench or in your sharpening accessories storage area.

Specifications:

Feature Measurement
Length (with handles) 92 mm
Cylinder diameter 25 mm
Cylinder width 30 mm
Weight 100 g

Attention! Avoid contaminating the charging roller with foreign impurities and abrasive particles from pastes with larger grit sizes. Once a specific paste has been applied to a roller cylinder, it is highly recommended not to use that same cylinder with different types of pastes.
